Friday of the 4th Week of Lent

View the Mass Readings

In today’s readings, we see the mistrust that people had in those who were of the Lord. In the first reading, ‘the wicked’ were plotting to rid the one who is close with the Lord. It is most interesting that it is specifically stated that “their wickedness blinded them.” The Lord protected the one who was centered on Him. As we continue on in Lent, are we trusting that the Lord will protect us, will deliver us from evil, will bring us home?
In the gospel, we see a perfect example of this trust in God’s providence in Jesus. He is our guide to perfect obedience and trust in God. We read that he stepped in front of the people trying to arrest him, and even though he confirmed who they thought he was, he was not arrested. That had to be really hard and probably scary to step out in front of the ones plotting to kill him. I would like to challenge all of us to think of one way we can better give over control and trust that God will follow through with His promises.
I will be praying for you all. Please continue to pray for me and the youth during this time in the desert. – Audrey Bennett

Let us Pray,

O God, who have prepared
fitting helps for us in our weakness,
grant, we pray, that we may receive
their healing effects with joy
and reflect them in a holy way of life.
Through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen.
